Located about 100 km
southwest Cairo, Al-Fayoum is Egypt's largest oasis, 70
km length and 80 km width. It was called the garden of
Egypt, because of its extremely fertilized soil and its
large variety of birds life , the oasis was completely
flooded by Lake Qaroun.
The Lahun Pyramid
The Lahun Pyramid is located 10 km southeast of the
Hawara Pyramid (another mud-brick pyramid) this one was
built by Senusert II during the 19th century BC. Due to
the fact that it isn't in very good condition, the
pyramid isn't at all popular to the tourists. If you've
seen the one at Hawara, there is absolutely no need to
see this one.

Pyramid of Meidum
The Medium Pyramid was
the first Egyptian attempt to build a pyramid. It is
located about 32km north-east Al Fayoum. The pyramid was
built over eight steps which where then filled in and
covered by an outside layer, this outside layer, however
it was collapsed not long after it was built as a result
of some errors in design. |
