Aswan

The Aswan High Dam
In 1889 the first Aswan High Dam was built, which was one of the largest in the world. Despite its height of 52m, the Old Aswan Dam was inefficient and could not hold back the Nile's annual flood. It wasn't until 1965, when the Egyptian President Gamal Abdel Nasser, ordered the construction of today’s massive High Dam, that the situation clearly improved. The Dam is 111m high, 3.5-km long , and around 1 km wide, which places it among the major tourist attractions of Aswan.

The Mauslium of Agha Khan
The Mauslium Agha Khan, Mohammed Shah Agha Khan, who was a great admirer of Aswan, asked in his will to be buried there. When he died in 1957, his family built him a domed marble tomb on the west bank of the Nile. The tomb was built in the Islamic style .
He was buried there on 20th February 1959 .

The Temple of Philae
After the construction of the Old Aswan Dam, the Temple of Isis on the island of Philae (better known as the Temple of Philae) was submerged underwater for three months every year.
But after the construction of the High Dam , it was submerged all the year.
